We started New Orleans Flare, LLC, out of love and necessity.

In the aftermath of Katrina we, like many others, first focused on finding new housing. But we also needed new employment, which led us to the notion of starting a candle company. Why candles? And why compete in a field crowded with large and small candle companies? The answer is simple. We really enjoy candles and we believe that the next generation of candles will offer artful beauty and sensual gratification that far surpasses all current candles. How can we resist such a challenge?

Our objectives in starting New Orleans Flare include:

• Bringing unique New Orleans flair in design and style to the development of novel candles,
• Offering candles in distinctive textures, colors, fragrances, containers, shapes and sizes, expanding the realm of candle artistic expression, and
• Promoting greater public appreciation of the merits of fine candles.

To achieve these objectives we currently are focused on:

• Employing natural waxes to enhance candle beauty, e.g. exploiting natural palm wax for its unique crystallinity, or designing scented soy candles for their soft, comforting feel,
• Utilizing both dazzling and subtle colors in candle expression, based on conventional as well as new, all-natural, vegetable-derived coloring agents,
• Exploring both traditional favorites as well as little-used fragrances and essential oils that evoke memories of good things past or that titillate the imagination, e.g. richly scented candles based on anise or peppermint,
• Developing unique production methods that serve as a pallet for unusual artful effects, e.g. the ability to make multi-layered palm candles in brilliant colors, such as for Mardi Gras or in support of local sports teams,
• Exploiting how burning candles can interact with their environment to produce notable effects, such as holographic (phantom) flames, and
• Always seeking materials and new methodologies that will permit us to continually extend the realm of beauty and candle utility, without compromising safety.

We are building on our extensive design, marketing, and chemical expertise to achieve these objectives. But, more than anything else, our love of candles is guiding us in building New Orleans Flare.
